Loud Clunking Noise....?
Lately when my I first drive my car after it has sat for a little while I hear this loud clunking noise coming from underneath the car. It happens when I push the gas pedal to accelerate. I hear this loud clunking noise right at first, then clears out and the car is fine. Then when I get off the gas, as soon as I hit it again, the clunking comes back. Sounds like one loud clunk each time I hit the gas pedal, and sometimes a short couple of loud clunks together. The noise goes away after I have driven the car for a few minutes. I have a 5spd and if I had to guess, I would say the noise is in the drive line after the transmission. It doesn't sound like anything I have heard if it was the clutch or gear box. Does anyone have any ideas on what this might be or what to check for to figure out what is going on? I talked to a buddy and he described the noise as someone hitting the floorpan with a sledgehammer. Any ideas?

RE: Loud Clunking Noise....?
Im taking a wild guess that it could be the drive shaft? It could be possible that the bolts are loose, try looking into that and make sure they are tight and there tightened to the recommended torque. If that doesn't help start looking around the transmission area. Hope that helps. Good luck.

That happened on my previous 87 GT it ended up being the drive shaft bolts. They were way loose, one was actually missing! Must have been sheared off with all that 5.0 HO tourque!! The bolts are just a couple of bucks from Ford shpuld they be bent/ missing. Good luck!
