Default gears?

i want to get some new gears for my stang. i want to get 3.55s. does n e one kno what the rpm difference is? and what kind of speedo gear i need? and will 3.73 be much different? cuz idk where to go. i drive my car daily and i dont really race it i just want some more acceleration.

since u arent really gonna race 3.55 i think should give u enough acceleration......r u going to add other mods on ur car later???

im so pissed! i have a brand new set of 373's sittin in my garage! i cant find someone to install them for a decent price. is ridiculous everywhere i call ist like 500-600 just to install it without the gears!!!! i wanna do it myself but dont have the jigs to do it w/. anybody got any?? how hard is it??

There is a lot of work to put those in properly, setting backlash and gearmesh etc. you have to take out drive shaft, axles etc. So when you think about it lots of work....and if it's not done properly you will get howling/whinnig. So if you want to take chance and do it yourself you have to know alot about what your doing. IMO if you don't know what your doing I would pay someone to do it. Could cause alot more damage if you try to save a few hundred bucks.

i agree w/ you on the "if you dont know what your doin leave it to someon else" but still it cant take like 7 hours of labor to do it can it?? even if the rear end is in the car. i saw some ppl pay that much for the gears, and a whole traction lock rebuild, and labor. it kinda seems a little expensive.

ya 89gtred bought everything he needed ( trac loc rebuild, master install kit and his gears) and including the price of the parts it was $530..

50.00 track lock rebuild kit
75.00 1 hr labor
-------------
125.00 track lock rebuilt
125.00 3.90 gears
80.00 master install kit
150.00 2 hr labor
40.00 about for tax
---------------------
520- 530 for everything done

I'm just saying if you haven't done anything like that before it can be very overwhelming, and you need a dial gauge etc etc.

Not saying it can't be done ..just not by an inexperienced mechanic.
