Ya know..... the GT40 intake manifold..... How do the two compare? I don't know much about either one. Have you ever heard of the GT40 Intake?

the gt-40 is good if youre on a budget. but its flow rates arent too much better than a stock intake. it'll give you a little more torque, since it was designed for a truck.

if your motor is stock the trickflow and edelbrock rpm are going to be to much intake and you will lose most of your bottom end (and may actually slow you down). i would suggest waiting untill you get the afr 165's to swap the intake out. instead the best way for you to gain some time is with a set of gears , converter (if auto), and a little diet. this will add a lot of fun when you drive the car and shows the biggest improvement in times over stock.

car craft took a 91 5.0 motor and made it make some serious horsepower. they simply honed the cylinders and used new rings. they kept the factory 9.0.1 pistons and factory ho cam. keep in mind the factory cam is very stout in these motors (intake 276 duration -.445 lift, exaust is 266 duration -.445 lift) and is capable of bringing big power with good heads. they used a carb set-up when they tested. it was a weiand stealth (same as a rpm) and a small 625 cfm carb so it coresponds well vs the efi that you want to use.
the motor with stock 5.0 e7te heads made 278 hp and 315 lb-ft. that was with good headers and the intake swap, it made for a soggy street motor due to the intake killing the bottom end. when they took the stock heads off and used a set of afr 165's power jumped up to 382 hp and 368 lb-ft, this tells you what kind of a cork the stock heads put on these motors! they decided that rather than swapping cams they would simply swap in a set of 1.7 roller rockers. this added an additional 23hp and 12 lb-ft with all kinds of power under the curve, making the grand total 405hp and 380 lb-ft (lift went up to .473). not to bad for a stock shortblock and cam.

by going with the b303 cam you wont be gaining much power. the b303 specs out at 284 duration and 480 lift. this durration comes at a price however, the cam is soft untill 3300 rpm. by using the stock cam and 1.7,1 rockers you get nearly the same lift and the lower durration allowes for a stronger street motor. not only that you can say its a stock cam and that really tweaks some people.

car craft afr head swap
