a stall amke ya go faster///it revs ya engine up to a predetermined range andengages ya drive line///get a auto, and shift kit and check andsee what range ya cam is as far as rpms, and get a stall thats about 500 rpms above its startin point so if its 1800 to 5600 then get a 2300-2500 stall..c4-c6 is cheapest aod is more money but ya get the od for gas when ya are not peddle happy//get a rachet shifter and shift when ya wantto

Buy an auto, put in a shift kit, drive it till you kill it and then swap to a manual if you want

i got an auto and it kicks ***

very under-estimated

the AOD is junk but for its convenience and time of technology (mid 80's), it isn't bad.

i recommend getting a tranny cooler if you're getting a shift kit. the #1 cause of tranny failure is heat.

shift kit + tranny cooler + 2800 stall + 4.10 gears = the best street combo

all together should be under a grand and you will notice significant improvements

just do what i did.... find the best looking car you can find. may it be a GT, LX, notch, hatch, whatever. who cares if it's an auto or not..... cuz you know what, 5 speed swaps are really easy. for the amount that you will spend on building an auto, you can get the t5 (or used tko trans) with trans harness and shifter, clutch set up (king cobra), pedal assembly and pilot bearing for the same price. don't be shy on learning this swap, cuz its really freakin' easy.

Under a grand? You must not be talking about getting your own stuff intalled, etc. A good TC will run you about $600 dollars. Gears & Install kit will cost around $500-600 dollars. Shift kit is about $100 plus install (say $250 but Im not sure) and tranny cooler is cheap. Your at about $1600. Sorry Im not trying to prove you wrong or anything, its just that theres a big difference between buying stuff and buying stuff and having it installed ya know. 90% of the people will not do their own tranny/rear work.

ditto

ORIGINAL: GO4URS

ORIGINAL: P Zero

Go4urs - I bet I would, I was going to do the same thing to my trucks trans, but I just like manuals better, IMO theyre smoother. But if I was going to build a dedicated drag car/truck it would definitly be an auto. That and any chick that drives a stang like yours Id prolly like anyway.
I must admit, the fun factor in an auto is definitely not there, but the look that I get when I spank that manual's butt makes it all worth it.[sm=exactly.gif]
