RE: Traction locks ????
Where at exactly on the car are the traction locks located? I'm assuming of course near the wheels, but... not sure really. I need to get a manual.

RE: Traction locks ????
it is located inside the rear end of your car. in the pumpkin. they are also available new from ford for $215 new if you dont want to rebuild it. i could go into great deal what it is and how it works but ill put it in a way only gearheads can appreciate. without a track loc or posi when you can on it the car leaves 1 whimpy little black line, with a posi it leaves 2

the gearing is self explainitory, its a gear. the traction lok is made up of clutches. both are located in the rearend housing (the big "pumpkin" shaped thing in the middle of the rear of the car).
i always thought the traction-lok spun both tires no matter the traction for each. GM's posi unit works off whatever tire is spinning and simply transfers power to the other tire. it does not use clutches like traction-lok instead it has whats called a spyder gear.

IF your tires spin with equal amounts of ease, it works GREAT, but if one tire is on a slippery spot and the other gets good traction it will over-power the trac-lok and you will do a 1 wheel peel. THis is not a problem, just a design limitation and the stock unit does not have the torque bias to hook them both up in said scenario. I have seen it plenty of times both with my car and others. I even had the mechanic inspect mine when he did my 4.10's, said it was in great shape (the car was bone stock AOD with 2.73's when I got it, i doubt it could even spin a tire).
