How Old Is My Engine?

There dates on these things anywhere? Or a casting code or part number, or anything?

castings starting with c are 60 d's are 70's e' 80, f's 90s etc and the next number is the second digit in the year

at the back of the block.. mine reads E9 wich stands for 89
