Default Autometer Speedo

Im looking to buy an autometer speedo and I have a question. Which one do I buy? Should I buy the mechanical ? and then if I do will the speed cable fit the autometer gauge? or should I buy the electric? and how would I hook that up seeing as the speedo stock is cable driven? I have a 1990 gt. Any help woud be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure you'll need the mechanical gauge. I don't think there's a way to convert it since it's driven by the gear in the tailshaft of the tranny.

Chances are the mechanical one won't fit your cable, and probably isn't calibrated for anything specific. The electronic ones can be calibrated easily, and they can pick up on pretty much any speed signal. A friend of mine used one on his 68 camaro with an ls1, and he used the stock speed sensor off his tranny. If you have ABS, you could tap into an ABS sensor. I think most mustangs also have a sensor inline with the speedo cable somewhere for the emissions stuff that should work too. But I could be wrong on that last one. I haven't checked mine.
