Default stock cam and aftermarket heads?

ok just wondering. im getting antsy as hell right now and i wana order new parts haha. anyways i was going ot go with the trickflow top end like some of you know BUT. it seems like that kit comes wiht alot of parts that i probly wont need. now im trying to decide between paying 2200 for that kit or get some afr (prolly 165cc?) heads and a aftermarket intake. if i was to do this do i need to get anything else iwht them?? i was looking at these on jegs http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...tegoryId=10187 and im not sure what else would be needed.

also i was told that the stock camshaft is still very good for up to lile 400 hp or in that range. now that may have been bull **** but i duno. if i was to get the afr heads what camshaft would you recoment or what one owould be needed?

Well it depends, if you S/C or turbo your car I'm sure that the stock cam will work great, the stock HO cams (from what I've heard) make great boost cams. But if you're going with heads a little beefier cam definentally wouldn't hurt.

i'm thinking of doing the same thing w/ some 1.7 rokers think would be like 320/30 flywheel hp. and as far as i know the stock cam is fairly stout and have heard of like 350 horse w them

with good heads the 1.7 roller rockers are pretty good with a stock cam. they dont do squat for a stock headed car but they can get you 12hp on a car with awsome heads. with a good intake aswell you can see close to 400 hp at the flywheel. (tfs track heat, edel rpm, etc) all from the stock cam with 1.7 rockers.

car craft took a stock 91 and put new bearing and rings and gaskets (stock pistons) pulled the fuel injection and put a mid range small carb and a weiand stealth intake (same as edelbrock performer rpm) afr 165's, stock roller cam and 1.7 rockers and made 405 hp and 380 lb ft at the crank. right here

Doesn't the stock cam sign off at like 4500rps? Go with the TF stage I cam. It's good, and cheap!

its cheap and comes with everything, even nice valve covers. the trickflow heads do not flow as well as the afrs and that will cost some power. the trickflow was still 350 at the crank so thats pretty good, especally for the price.
