My 89 5.0 grinds badly when I shift into 2nd gear quickly, and a little bit into 3rd gear quickly.

I have to shift slowly over the course of a few seconds.

I hope I don't need a new tranny... maybe it's the synchro?

Anyone else have this problem and know what it is, and any way to fix it cost effectively?

either your clutch is not fully disenguaging or your synchros are shot

double clutching will probably take away the grinding until you can get them synchros replaced. or just drive/shift slow until it gets fixed

How much does it usually cost to replace the syncrhos.. I hear they aren't cheap

its getting pretty bad with second... and I'm scared when a ricer comes up to me cuz I can't shift I'll get smoked!

granny shiftin.. not double clutchin like you should

just granny shift it, be gentle with it...smokin ricers can wait, you try to race its going to mess it up way worse than it is now. Eventually, the trannys just going to lock up on ya. Ive been through this three times. They grind, then it spreads to other gears and eventually the whole tranny just locks up on ya one day. Then....time for a rebuild.

well taken it easy is better than getting smoked by a ricer AND walking home

2 kwik is right, it sucks to have to walk. Take it easy on it or be prepared to buy a new tranny.

Ouch, new tranny. That sucks. It's definitely gettin worse too.
