Default Headers

OK, I'm getting ready to buy some new headers for my 95, as the Hooker headers that are on there now are not the right type of header, and as a result I'm having a semi bad exhaust leak where the headers bolt up to the h pipe. One quick question, I know ceramic headers insulate better than chrome, but since chromes are so much cheaper, I have been considering getting those instead. My question is, do chrome headers discolor as I've been told, or are they OK as is?

They will discolor after a while and you will get a rainbow affect with all that heat. I would spend a couple of bucks more and get the ceramic ones they claim to reduce temp. by about 300* over other ones. I am going to go with BBK equal length ceramic soon.

Just my opinion.

Good luck

Yeah, chrome will discolor.
As for ceramic, I found that most manufactures coatings are not very good and will eventually rust. I would ask if they waranty the coating.
If you're looking for a durable ceramic coating, you're better off buying them in steel and sending them out to get coated by Jet Hot.
A friend bought a set of FMS "ceramic" coated headers and they rusted a year after he had them. I bought a used set of uncoated JBA's 8 yrs ago, sent them out to Jet Hot for ceramic coating. They're still in excellent condition.

Now onto my next question, what's the difference between equal, and unequal lenght headers besides the obvious, will both of them mount up to the mid pipe the same?

they both will mount the same, the equals are a little more of a pain in the butt to put in. Also you have to watch the placement of your plug wires with the equals because they will melt one in a heartbeat. I think the hp difference between them was only 1hp... so I say stick with the unequals, but thats just my opinion

yeha +1 also get some heat wrap for your headers. its not very much $ and it gives the effect of the ceramic...and saves wires.
