Well it could. If the EGR allows too much exhaust to pass through, it will heat teh intake up a lot. Which, if Im not mistaken, is where the temp sensor is. Thats why I asked if he heard boiling, to verify that the car indeed was overheating and not getting a false signal.

1st, does it have enough coolant? Is the radiator in good shape? A lot of times you wont see if the cooling vanes are gone because a lot of the radiator is obscured by the fan shroud. Had it happen, my bottom 3 or 4 rows the vanes had rotted away and my car was overheating, I couldnt see that they were gone until I pulled the shroud off.

Does it overheat then go back to normal, then overheat again and go back to normal? Well I can tell you right off that your thermostat is going to need replacing. Once the car overheats itll distort the spring and itll take more heat to open it. So theres a start. What kind of t-stat did you use? You dont need anything fancy, just the OE replacement. Ive found the blueprinted ones tend to fail a lot. So much that my local parts store stopped carrying them because they had too many problems with em. It also isnt a bad idea to upgrade your radiator, you can probably pick a lifetime warranty Police package rad (3core I believe) for around $200, that what I put in mine, it runs cool as a cucumber now.

yea sometimes, but I have to let off the gas a little.

I just bought a fail safe 180* t stat. I think its stuck open cause when I top the coolant off there is coolant flowing before it reaches 180*???

Could have a flow problem in the radiator. What kinda shape is the fan clutch in? How does it act just cruising around town?
