Default Flywheel Question

How do you tell if you need the 28oz or the 50oz flywheel. My mustang came with a 11" when I bought it. Doesnt it have something to do with the Harmonic dampener?

Default RE: Flywheel Question

a stock 5.0 is externally balanced at two points. the flywheel and damper. if its a 302 then u need a 50 oz. im pretty sure the 28 is for when u stroke ur motor.

Default RE: Flywheel Question

the 28oz offset is the 1982 or 1985 or sometime along there, well before then, 302's used the 28oz. For some damn reason Ford decided to go to a 50oz after then until modern times. When you balance an engine, you need to supply a flywheel/flewplate and a damper, but they need to match up, meaning dont mix match the dampers and flywheels. If its a 28oz motor, get the 28oz flywheel and damper, if its an earlier 50oz motor get a 50oz flywheel and damper.

Good luck
