Yea its cheap as shizz but I was really amazed at what it did. Its really thick stuff too.............looks honey when you pour it out so that may be some of the reason oil does not leak out? My oil pressure went up and it quit leaking oil!

No doubt. I'm just amazed that the stuff continued to work even after you stopped using it...amazed and a little frightened.

Valves seals will cause smoke on engine start after sitting over night.

I think most likely it is worn oil rings. With worn oil rings a slight coat of oil is left on the cylinder wall during the intake and power strokes which gets burned, it is such a slight amount on each stroke you do not see the smoke but it adds up over time.

Thanks for the insight, Angcobra. That makes a lot of sense. So in your opinion, under excellent care, are my oil rings liable to deteriorate quickly and cause more oil consumption? Or are they more likely to remain at their current state for a long time? I ask because it seems to me that, with so much oil getting past them, they are not subject to much further wear. What do you think?

I think the oil consumption will increase at an increasing rate. The issue is ring to cylinder wall contact pressure, the ring starts off with high contact pressure and it decreases with ring and cylinder wear. Once the ring is worn to a point it can no longer keep the appropriate contact pressure it takes very little wear to increase oil consumption.

My 95 escort burns a little oil, after it sits for ~ 30ish min i can go out and turn it on and a little *puff* of blueish smoke comes out the back, the hotter the engine/air temp gets the worse the *puff* gets. Recently i swiched to 10w30 synthetic for it to try and reduce engine wear (its just a daily driver).

I would think you have cracked/worn valve rings or maybe oil rings but the valve rings seem to be more prone to go south over time than oil rings but i could be wrong. No matter what if you dont get it taken care of it will only progress... However it wont hurt anything youll just have to put more and more oil in the engine.

Try swiching to a higher weight oil... but I wouldnt go above 10w40 ESSPECCIALY if you live in a colder climate... Also try some lucas oil stablizer; I hear good things about it...

Plus I kinda like that burnt oil smell -

I just wanted to through out a quick one here, I have a 94 GT with 64k miles on it and run Mobile 1 syn. oil. I have noticed consumption of oil and an unusual rate also. I have checked it out for smoke from the pipes and have none at any time. I.E. cold start in mornings, normal operating temp, and really ******* it out. I have no leaks at all and the plugs are clean as a whistle (Nipo Iridiums). I have been Building engines and machining for more than 25 years just to give ya a back ground of basic experience I have. I attribute most of my minor problem to synthetic oil bypass on the rings. Nature of the beast running synthetic oils. Synthetic oils are great for the engine but you have to keep an eye on the DIP STICK.

I have been doing a little research, and I am going to switch to AMSOIL synthetic products. They are saying that their product will correct this issue. My 2 pennies!!!!

if you want the blowby to decrease just use 10w30 reg oil......using a qt won't hurt anything an adding a fresh qt will help the oil protect better than with the old oil....

2 Kwik, that is an option. In talking with the reps. it can be done, it just reduces the life of the syn. oil if you use and extended life oil. Like I said earlier AMSOIL states they can correct the oil consumption that I am experiencing. High mileage is a differnt story. Thanks for the info.

I use amsoil myself and never herd that claim......another thing I would do is put a high flow pcv valve in to relief a lil pressure..as well as use a can of seafoam
