clutch self adjuster
Hi,
Well I've almost got that v8 swap in my daughter's mustang finished. It's an 89,was a 4 cyl auto, now a gt 5 speed. She crashed her 88 gt and I found an 89 4 cyl and swapped everything.Almost done,I've got it running,I put in a new clutch while I had it apart. If I toe up the clutch pedal to adjust it like the book says,it will not go into gear,if I start it in gear it smokes the clutch with the pedal all the way to the floor. If I hold up the pedal with my foot and reach through the side with a screwdriver(don't have the dash in yet)then pry the adjuster mechanism up a few more clicks then let the pedal go,the clutch works perfect and it will shift. The problem is as soon as someone accidentally pulls up on the clutch pedal it adjusts back to where it doesn't work, then I will have the dash in it and I will not be able to get at it as easily as I can now.I pulled the hairpin clip off the clutch adjuster mechanism, and took it off, boiiiiing a spring came flying out.I think the spring must put pressure on the mechanism to pull the clutch cable tight,do you think the spring must not be pulling the cable tight enough, that's why the clutch will work when I pull it a little tighter with a screwdriver?Do you just replace the spring?the teeth on the adjuster look good.Is there an easy way to put the thing back together.I am soooooo over this project. jim
