Got Gears!!

RE: Got Gears!!
I agree with nitrous bob - standard at first, and then synthetic. I just changed mine after the installation of my gears and posi, and I put Royal Purple in there. Turns out that you have to put friction modifier in with RP (even though they claim it has limited slip additive in it) - I heard a nice metal-on-metal clanking coming from the rear end, so I drained out the RP and put Mobil One in there (w/the modifier). Everything is fine now

RE: Got Gears!!
There is a formula to find the correct speedo gear size that is very easy. My car for instance came with 273 gears and I installed 355
gears. First you need to divide the old gear size by the new gear size, 273/355 = .76 Take your old speedo gear out, lets say it is a 19
tooth, 19/ .76 =25 You would need a 25 tooth speedo gear. To check the ratio: 19/25= .76 Normally you can get a speedo gear that will get you a one to two percent accuarcy.

as far as the speedo gear...you cannot correct a aod past 3.27's
you have a machined 8 tooth drive gear on your output shaft , a t5 has a plastic one that can be replaced w/ minor disassembly (i did my 6 tooth replacement w/ the rebuilt trans)
anyways...a 6 tooth drive and probably 20 tooth driven would work for you...but you have to replce the entire output shaft to do it.
so your only option is a 23tooth non ford part (the jeep part, it's the white one that everyone sells and calls steeda) it will get you probably within 15% error

RE: Got Gears!!
i got the purple 3.73 21 tooth gear for mine cause with my 3.90s and my 245/60/15 tires that im gona be putting on the back its gonna act more like 3.73 gears than 4.10s and since they dont make a 3.90 gear i figured i would go with that 1. Seems to be pretty close but i havent put the 245s on there yet so its still a little bit off. I figure it should be near perfect when i get the larger tires.

i wouldnt go by this, go by the chart that addermk2 posted in that link to the other topic that i provided...then you KNOW its right. i went by that and my speedo is 100% correct. if you want it to be correct, then go by that chart.
