Temp Problem..T-Stat?
My car has been acting up a bit lately with the temperature. It has been getting up to the 2nd line below redline and the heat only blows luke warm. Then it will start blowing real hot and drop down but then go back up and blow luke warm again...back and forth etc. I am wondering if my T stat might be getting stuck and be time for a new one? I already had the heater core replaced about 3k miles ago so thats not a pro. any suggestions?

RE: Temp Problem..T-Stat?
thanx for the confirmation pro, didnt want to rip it out and get a new one for no reason. I know its not for sure but someone else thinking it may be the same thing gives me a little more reason to go for it. Now am anyone can i get at it from the top of the engine bay or am i going to need to tackle this from under the car? Anyone?

top of the car, just unhook the hoses and then the bolts...
its pretty easy, just remember what way it was installed and glue the new one in place. (if you dont use glue gl getting it to fit right)

The spring side always points to the engine...just remember to drain some of your antifreeze out (just below the lower intake) or you will have anti-freeze everywhere.

Don't worry about gluing it, it's not that big a deal. The thing you should worry about is getting the gasket matched up to the screw holes w/the right amount of RTV on it and not needing to move it back and forth- that will cause leaks.
What I did was this:
put the gasket on the stat housing with 1/8" bead of RTV.
Hold stat in the lower intake manifold and put the housing on with the longest bolt already through so that you can put the screw right in the hole.
Then tighten both bolts lightly, let the RTV cure, and about 15 minutes later tighten it down.
That's what I did... the second time around. Worked great.
