Goal of 450 RWHP

RE: Goal of 450 RWHP
Quit being a *****. The engine has to come out if you're going to build it (ok well I suppose it doesn't, but it'd be a hell of a lot easier to bore it if it's not in the car), so with the engine out the headers will fall right out. Who cares how long it took to get them in, especially when you could have so much more. What headers are they? Tube dimensions? If they're the standard 1 5/8" primary into a 3" collector, and you're wanting to make that kind of power, you'll want to scrap the headers anyway for some larger primaries.
Anyway, my thoughts - AFR 205's, either supercharger or turbo, and 331 stroker with low compression forged internals.
Is this going to be a daily driver? Are you willing to put up with relatively poor off-idle? Come on... if you've got the cash do it.

ive heard alot of good points in here. quit being a ***** about the headers, and save your money and do everything at once. but the truth is, your complaining about your timeslip. its only going to get worse with more hp. you need to focus on driving, and suspension. i dont know what mods you have so far, but get upper and lower control arms. get some drag radials. sub frames, coil overs or launch springs, tubular k member and control arms. you dont want more hp untill you can utilyze what you already have.

why go with a 331? I heard that the old 347 might of had oil problems but not any more I had D&D build me the bottom stroker witch is a 342 and I had them put low compression pistons in it with a girdle on it and they cut me a cam for it.I have had several guys that told me that my 94 cobra heads are pretty good so I had them worked a little and I think that i'll go with a turbo but after reading what you said about how much of a bitch it is to put one in now I don't know.I have allready spent $8,000 on the motor and haven't got a turbo or a sc guess I'll have to think about it some more...slickmustang

My ultimate goal is to Try 10's but I don't see that happening with a lowered car...
And that much HP
I don't really want much more because I need SOME gas mileage and Some Drivability.

165's are a joke if you want 450hp.... 185's are what to go with maybe even bigger... like 205 or something... but for sure not the 165's... thats not much more than stock i dont think

If the engine is built right and you're not always rodding the snot out of it there's no reason it shouldn't go 100k or more.
nemethjames (or whatever, too hard man) the 165's are a huge step in flow above the stock heads, but you're absolutely right, not the head of choice for making 500+hp at the crank.
