Depends if you going to leave it stock or modify it. Stock vs. stock the 1997 is a quicker car then the 1994/95 which only had 215hp. But if you want to modify the car then the 5.0's are easier to work on and pick up power. If get the 1997 I don't think you will be disappointed and if you want to modify it then bolt up some PI heads.

RE: 5.0 / 4.6
never said it would be easy......but if the deal on the 1997 is that good. Also i've seen times for pre-1999 4.6l in the high fives for 0-60 and in the mid 14's in the quarter, i'll try to find them.

RE: 5.0 / 4.6
Pfft last time I looked car and driver netted a 0-60 in 6.1s and the 1.4 in 14.9 with a manual 94 GT, the 96 did 0-60 in 6.4s and the 1/4 in 15.2s so technically that makes the 4.6L slower. Another thing, Ford even admitted that the 4.6L was a tad slower than the 5.0L but claimed it had the same hp, only reason they went with the 4.6L is because it could meet newer harder emission standards and because it was easier to get a higher peaking rpm with it.

My vote is for anything 95 and earlier or 99+. Check out Red headed stepchild in MM&FF to see how much trouble they had getting 300rwhp on a non-PI motor. You have to boost them to get any power.

RE: 5.0 / 4.6
the 4.6 is a little lighter, becouse of tyhe aluminum heads and plastic intake.
techincaly the 5.0 also has crappy heads.
if it was me i would also save up for a 5.0 or a newer PI, but the 96-98 gt's make good fun daily drivers, with bolt ons they make decent power.
the 4.6 was introduced in 91 in the panther platform, most of the bugs were worked out by 96, although i heard of the intake manifold cracking, but that should have been fixed under warrenty by now. The newer PI motors are very stout engines, so are the older 5.0 engines.
