Hydrostatic Engine Lock, What Broke
First post but long time Mustang owner. I have a 84 GT, 5.0, carb, slightly modified engitn (cam and heads). Last summer I was making some modifications to the carb and to make a long story short ended up leaking fuel into the engine and upon starting had a hydostatic lock condiditon. Engine will start and there is a metalic pinging untill oil pressuer comes up.
Have not driven the car since and obviously have a repair on my hand. This may not be such a bad situation as I have debated additn a 383 stroker for some time but with only 32K miles and a very strong running engine it was hard to justify.
What I do not know is what gave way to the stock lower end. Since it has the pinging sound upon start up I suspect bearing damage since it would be most effected by oil pressure. However I would thik that the bearings would not be the weakest link, something more like a wrist pin or connecting rod.
Looking for commentes to asses likly damage so I can start to decide if I repair or rebuild?

YOUR PUTTING AN F-ING CHEVY ENGINE INTO A FORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![:@]
I've worked on early EFI Crown Vic pig cars that had chambers flooded with fuel. This resulted in a bent rod upon cranking.
Some rod bearing knock is normal when the engine first fires, but should stop as soon as oil pressure begins to rise.
