Default RE: IDLE

ok. i cleaned out the IAC and it now idles but, it idles around 700 till i hit the gas, then it goes to 2k and SLOWLY comes back to 1500. infact in third gear i can hold about 45mph without touching the gas pedal.

Next question. the guy i bought it from said that he replaced the water pump alternator, battery, battery cables, and solenoid. Well the solenoid post that my positive lead from the battery is attached to gets hotter than hell, its melting the plastic off of the cables and has turned the post that "metal got hot rusty color". any ideas?

Also in an earlier post i said i got it for 900, i talked the guy down to $700

my 87 5.0 used to do the same thing so i did some looking around and found out i didn't have a thermostat so i bought a 160 degree one and tossed it in there and the problem seised. so you might want to check that out. i will say though i lost some power when i put the thermostat in

^^ Yea thats because your car is not at operating temperature. You should pull that thermo, go to a 180 and fix your problem.

My 86GT had the same problem. I finally narrowed it down to the idle speed motor on the side of the upper intake. It's electrical and can quit working instantly.
