Could be a bad fuel pump.

i ran 40lbs of fuel with a 255 lph fuel pump and it worked great.

i tried to put the injectors and the pressure regulator on a 5.0 with a stock fuel pump and left the pressure at 40.
the headers started turning orangeish in like 15 seconds while i was about to make sure the timing was right with a timing light.
may make me sound like an idiot but we put a 255lph fuel pump in 10 minutes later and it ran perfect.

my timing was near 14 though

id get a better fuel pump

I'm thinking your pump is fine when you first prime it, then it dies overtime to the point where it won't restart after cooling down.

It is a ford LOL J/K. My buddys 90 GT had a clogged fuel line but it didnt bog out until 3500-4000 RPMs kind of like your situation. Not sure about the flange on the header though.

sounds like vapor lock to me...if pump is stock change it.....first you need to mount a gauge so you can safely watch it at those rpms..
