off road h-pipe / shorties
too loud? talking to my friend who works at an exhaust shop said my car would just be ridiculiously loud. its a daily driver and he said my car would become an instant cop magnet.
i have an american thunder catback on it now with stock h-pipe/headers and its decently loud but has its quite points (under 1500 it just rumbles.. 2000+ and its throaty)
he recommends i get atleast 2 cats but i dont want any cats. i have 4 on it now and its just restricting power.. not worried about emissions testing so it dosnt really concern me.

RE: off road h-pipe / shorties
I'm running stock headers, O/R H-pipe, catback Flowmaster 40s. It's not too lond at all with my setup. it's a nice low rumble that isnt too loud, but isn't too soft. Recieved a LTO fo compliments on how it sounds just right. Of course, the American Thunder is different, but it shouldn't be too bad.
You don't have to worry about visual inspections for the cats? If it already sounds so-so with 4 cats, why not just get a catted midpipe with high flow cats? You won't lose much sound and it will still pass a visual inspection.

i just had it inspected.. not a fan of the sound. might gut the cats but ive heard some 5.0's in person with no cats and it just sounds much better.
the only problem would be having to take it all off for inspection. its visual and sniffer test. car passed with flying colors im sure if i made some adjustments i could probably get it to sneak by with no cats.
anyway i just want to open up the sound before winter. american thunders are softer than the 40's. its a classic muscle car sound. not too loud not too quiet.
my friend just kinda scared me because he was just like.. your car would be obnoxiously loud. i dont mind it.. i just dont want it to be so loud that i cant drive in peace (without cops tailgating me every day)

The sound and loudness of the exhaust is more in the catback than anything...an H or X will change it some, but your mufflers define the rest. I'm running the stock H right now, but I gutted the first set of cats.
