My car was shooting white smoke on acceleration like crazy, I freaked out and thought it was a headgasket as well. Turned out to be power steering hoses were shot and would spray stuff all over my exhaust and would smoke up the joint. Check your exhaust pipes, the inside for wetness to see if its really coming from inside the engine. Could be power steering like mine was.

well ive blown headgaskets before.. just not on a mustang
it wasnt thick white smoke like a blown headgasket (coolant pouring into the exhaust)
the car sat over night in the rain and it was cold today (high 50's)
