1.6 is stock

1.7's with stock cam should be fine, you're only adding about .030 of lift

thanks r.barn... i was just wondering cause i know with the flat top pistons on the stock 86 block that there is not many cams or heads out there that i can put on without having to flycut my pistons... and just wasnt sure if 1.7's would make my valves hit my pistons.

Well stock lift on an HO cam is .444". An E303 lift is .498". I'm pretty sure that an E will hit. You have to calculate exactly what your lift would be with 1.7's. See if you can find someone on here that knows the most lift you can have on a '86 motor. I'm sorry I can't be anymore help.

i'm getting them from jegs... i called and the guy didnt have any idea if they would hit or not. i think the guys name was rich... but he said there was no notes of them not working on an 86 motor... i just want to make sure cause i dont want to get them and then put them on fire up my motor and whipe out my valves.... i kinda am currious as to how big of a cam i copuld put in it too.. i want a cam but i'm not tearing the engine outtill this winter.. i do plan on a stroker kit for this winter so maybe i will wait and do everything at once.

If I were you, I'd just wait till winter. Winter's not that far off, and then you could just rip off the heads and notch the pistons if you wanted. Or change them. Or since you're thinking of putting a stroker in it, they'll come notched.

I called the Ford Racing Tech line and the guy there said he has heard of people doing it and it worked out fine, but it was nothing they could verify. If I was you I would call them again, you will probably get a different guy and see if you get a better answer. The Ford Racing guys are very knowledgeable. (586)- 468-1356
