I can hear it at idle and low rpm while driving but it's drowned out by the exhaust, road noise, etc. while in the higher rpm range

If you do change the pump to a larger one, you're going to hear it at idle. It's not that bad, but it's just something that you'll have to live with.

If you have the car running and stand behind it, you'll hear it. It's just the vibration being transferred to the bracket. There's a little rubber gasket in between the bottom of the pump body and the bracket that will deaden some of the noise.

yea I've called a shop and plan on having it replaced with in the next couple of days...but it still doesn't explain why my check engine light goes on and off after I reach about 1600 rpm untill I lift off the gas, then it stops going on...any help with that would help too
That means you have severe detonation. Blinking CEL = Detonation or Misfiring. Have it looked at ASAP. Pull all your plugs to find the bad cylinder and go from there.

You might want to look into the charging system if it starts to run poorly with the lights on.

A common symptom of a fuel pump going bad is it gets noisey. That doesnt apply to aftermarket pumps because some of them are noisey. I worked at ford as a tech and if i heard the pump i would tell them its probably going bad. Id replce it if i were you becuse getting stranded is not fun.

if it's getting noisier, it could be the internals are going bad in it. Mine did that like 3 years ago, replaced it & the noise went away.
