Default Electrical problem?? Healight Problem ??

It's happened to me three times in 2 summers. When driving at night might headlights go crazy, eg. High beam, Low beans, turn off.... they go through this cycle randomly for like 1 minute while I'm trying to make them stop by flicking the switches . And then there fine... I don't get it, has anybody heard of this before ?

Sounds like a bad relay or loose connections or bad switches somewhere in the lighting system. It could also be a frayed wire someplace that is tripping the circuit breaker so I would do some looking and get this repaired before you start a fire in your wiring system. If all else fails, take it to a Ford dealer and let them find and fix the problem before you have a accident one night.

I have a 91 GT Convertible that had the same problem. My research revealed that this is a common problem with GT's that is caused by the electrical system not be able to handle the additional load of the fog lamps. The wiring overheats from the additional load and causes the in line breaker to open and close in response to the overheating of the wires. I fixed this by installing a relay between the fog lamp switch and the fog lamps. The switch is now controlling only the 12 volts to the coil and the battery is feeding power directly to the fog lamps through the engerized relay contact. This eliminates the over heating wire problem and the cycling of the breaker.

That is music to my ears !! I was really hoping someone else had this problem before!! I'll try that this week sometime and let you know. That should be the problem because when they start flicking on and off if I turn off my fog lights there fine afterwards. Thanks a million!!!

When I get home from work I'm going to look around for the procedure I used to fix the problem. If you'll send me an email I'll reply with the instructions. I'm new to this forum, but I bet there is a way to attach items such as these instructions.

If not that it could be the multi dysfuctional switch. Fords always go out.

Well I got a 87 and the same thing happened too me. The lights would go off and that's not to good in the middle of the night. I pulled out my headlight switch and sure enough there was chared wire right behind the switch. All I did was replaced the switch. Haven't had a problem since.
