351 swap speed density..will it work?
I am building a 351 in the near future and was wondering if I will have to convert to MAF from my current SD (87 5.0). I would like to keep what I have if I can, I don't really want to change. Thanks

RE: 351 swap speed density..will it work?
Personally I would stick with an A9* computer.
I think the Lightnings were all OBD-II?
This would make them a competely different computer. It would be like swapping a Fox computer for a sn95 computer. Yes, it can be done, but it is time consuming and can get expensive.
Maybe I have something messed up though?
Really the A9L or A9P (depending on trans) will work great for the 351w.
Just my thoughts.

Why the desire to stay SD?
When you start to make other modifications, the MAF computer will handle it better. Especially, if you have already added some extra cubic inches.
In theory you should be able to bolt all the SD components up the the 351w block, I believe.
I have no idea how the SD computer would handle that though.
The SD can be a little finicky.
That is the reason I suggest the MAF computer.
In the end though it is your car, and you get to build it any way you want.

I understand MAF would be better and will most likely switch, just checking out my opitions.

Speed density computer will have all kinds of problems with the extra cubes
since it doesnt actaully read how much air is coming in like an MAF, but figures it out thru set tables it checks against in memory.
Get a used EEC off ebay, they're on there cheap all the time.
or just switch to carb set-up to keep it cheap and dump the computer all together.
