88 gt with blown motor for $2000
hello to all, new to this forum, have the opportunity to buy 1988 gt in really good condition except motor doesn't run, owner shady on details, said a friend told him it is a cracked piston, car has sat for over 2 years. it was repainted-very good job, interior is in great shape odometer reads 59950, he says it hasn't turned over, but the carfax shows 59000 in 1993, so I think he is full of it. i was looking at buying the car and repairing it to sell it and make some money, the body is great, you can tell there was work done on the front, the bumper doesn't line up perfectly with the hood line, the gap is narrower on the driver said, and the headlights are new. all the body panels, fenders, bumpers, doors and hood have matching numbers on them. I told him I'd give him the 2k for it with $200 down tomorrow, but now I'm not so sure. what are your thoughts. he said the engine wouldn't turn over and I could try it, but when I did the battery was dead and he said see, nothing happens, the engine is bad. The engine is not seized, I could pull the serpentine to get it to turn over, there was no water in oil the shifter felt smooth, but I don't know I would appreciate some input.

yeah, i think i will try to go out there tomorrow and try that what he said the motor did doesn't sound right and i haven't hear of a cracked piston causing it to not run, he said it started running really rough and sputtering and when he got home it died. he could crank it over, but it wouldn't start. I will take my jump pack tomorrow and see. Do you think it would be worth buying to sell even if it is 159k miles and I end up putting a motor or rebuilding this one, I know I can do it for less than 3k into the car.

id never buy a car that didnt run, no telling what else is wrong with it because you cant start it, i bought my white lx 5.0 for $836. came with expensive rims, new tires, an amp & a subwoofer, said the fuel pump was bad, oil pan gasket was bad, head gasket. something in the ignition in the steering column was loose, i beat it back in & bent it in place and it cranked right up, pass valve cover gasket is bad, oil pan gasket is fine, and fuel pump is fine. thats the only thing that was wrong with the car but i planed to use it for parts till i got it and it was in way better condition then my gt i had.

id keep shopping, find someone straight up with you to buy from. I personally think you'll be happier. If he's shady on the details, dont even mess with it, it isnt worth it.

I don't plan on keeping the car, i was looking to flip it, use my skills to make some cash and give someone a nice car they can enjoy, just been out of the mustang market for a while.
