Pulling The Motor for the 1st time
yea im kinda nervous about it im a know it all most of the time but i need to pull the motor i gotta remove the oil pan, my motor mounts are bad, the engine bay needs to be freshened up with some paint, ill install the full length headers while the motors out but I'm really nervous about doing it. The car runs with low oil pressure as it is. But it runs. My biggest fear is putting it back in and it wont start. It's making me think twice about it and sooner or later the time will come where it'll have to be pulled anyway. Any advice on pulling it? I don't even know how to pull a motor other than running the chains through the headbolts...if anyone is in the area, im located in jersey...

Make sure to go get some ziplocks & bag everything, bolts and such...I even make notes on stuff and stuff them in the bags with the bolts. It'll make things go much smoother on re assembly. Take pics of things as well.
Note where all the wiring goes, etc.

It's no big deal.
go ahead and remove the trans and engine as an assymebly, its MUCH easier to unbolt
the drive shaft and trans x-member than to get at the back of the bellhousing. ( make sure you mark the DS so goes back on exactly same)
just lable all the vac lines, the wiring harness is kind of a no brainer since everything will only reach
what its supposed to reach.
watch the ground wire running from back of driver side head to firewall
dont try and do this with the hood on either, go ahead and take it off, just mark it for re-install.
you can do this in about 4-5 hours with a buddy's help.
Give all the bolts and nuts a good shot of WD-40 or such and give little time to soak.
dont forget the electrical connections under the engine either going to trans and low oil sensor.

The wiring is pretty straight forward. Ford did a good job of not making the plugs interchangeable.
Watch the vac lines, if mis-handled they will crack causing vac leaks later.
It really isn't that tough.
Do you have a hoist and engine stand?

RE: Pulling The Motor for the 1st time
since your pulling the motor out and its got what.... 320k on it... buy a shortblock while its out. they can be bought on ebay from the same guy i got mine from for around $800 already rebuilt. I grabbed my shortblock for $1000 with forged pistons, I plan on topping it off with some 190cc renegade heads and a TFS stage 2 cam. While its out... you might as well.... right?!
