help! my car wont shut off!
Hi everyone. I've got a problem that hopefully you guys can help me out with. The other day I was pulling into work and when I went to turn the key ignition from the run to off position, I think something snapped because all of sudden I could turn the ignition to all the positions really easily. now here's the kicker. The car kept running, even after i removed the key. the little lever that keeps the key in unless its rotated to the off position still works fine, but the position of the key in the tumbler doesn't affect the car at all, it just stays running anyhow. I even tried removing the whole key tumbler, with no luck. I think I need a new key ignition, but I'm not sure. if that is what i need, where's the cheapest place I can get one? your guys help would be appreciated. right now I have to turn off the car by stalling it (thank god its a manual), and i have to disconnect the battery so it doesn't get drained whenever I leave the car.

RE: help! my car wont shut off!
I had the same problem with a bronco a couple of years ago, there is a rod in the steering column connected to a cam that pushes the ignition switch under the steering column when you turn your key. Happened to me twice, it just shatters, especially if it's not aligned properly after reinstallation.
It's a pain to get to, you neeed to remove steering wheel and plastic stuff around column.
a good way to chek is to see if you can wiggle the rod that goes into that ignition switch with the key off, if you can, then that's your problem and if you can't fix it now, that's how you are going to have to shut your car off

so im starting to think that whats broken is that "rod" that connects the key tumbler to the ignition switch. it thats the problem, is there anyway to fix that piece or do I have to get a whole new one from somewhere?
