.......

ORIGINAL: jockoal

I checked with ford and found indeed my vehicle uses a knock sensor..it is located on the right rear of the intake manifold....1987 mustang 5.0 h.o. with aod trans..when i had the engine changed i also changed intakes, i asked to have my original manifolds returned..upon inspection today i found the sensor still in my original manifold in the right rear location..i did not know until today that this was the knock sensor, since most knock sensors are located on the side of the engine block.....know i only have to find the computer wire and attach hopefully the sensor is still good, if not buy new no big deal..if anyone knows what the wire color code from sensor to cpu, would appreciate data, as i think they may have snipped it when changing components...its good news anyway as know i know why engine power has been so poor at higher speeds..cant wait to hear an engine ping..al
.....again, here is the '87 5.0L EEC-IV diagrams.....manual and AOD...

Enjoy!......

UPDATE: I CALLED FORD AGAIN REGARDING KNOCK SENSOR AND AGAIN I WAS TOLD THAT INDEED MY VEHICLE DOES USE A KNOCK SENSOR, PART# E3AZ12A699A.. I WAS STILL NOT SURE WHICH WIRE TO USE, BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS THE ORANGE WIRE THAT THE SHOP HAD NOW GROUNDED TO THE FIREWALL..WITH KEY ON ENGINE OFF I CHECKED VOLTAGE AT THE ORANGE WIRE,SURE ENOUGH IT READ 4.66 VOLTS.. WITH THIS NOW IN MIND I INSTALLED MY OLD SENSOR IN LEFT REAR ON LOWER MANIFOLD..FIRED UP ENGINE AND A NEW SOUND EMITTED, A LOWER MORE INTENSE SOUND, NOT THE FLAT BLAWP-BLAWP SOUND OF PRIOR..YET TO ROAD TEST..AL

DUDE! lay off the caps, it makes your post very hard to read and is considered very bad manners on a web board.
