Well reasoning is I'm looking for a CHEAP platform to start a project on. My friend said he's getting an ls1 camaro (to replace his lt1 camaro because he said it isn't fast enough). after a bit of talking I bet him that with $2k I could build a car that would stomp the ls1 he gets. As for what engine I'm still waiting to see what all is done to the ls1 car. If it's stock or near I'm going with a single turbo 4 cylinder if it's got alot done I'm going with a tt 351w.

Still debating on the car though. I would prefer it to be an 85-86 hatch just because I love the looks & already have an 87-93 car. I guess it's all going to come down to which I find for cheap. Both setups will be efi.

they are all in the ballpark of 3000 lbs, the lightest being a LX coupe (notch), the heaviest being the GT convertable! Either way if your building a project car for the track only, you'll be gutting the interior, chip the floor coating off, smog delete, EGR delete, fiberglass hood trunk doors fenders, gutting the trunk/hatch space, battery relocation, aftermarket suspension which saves weight, amongst many other things that will be swapped out for lighter/faster parts! good luck

It's not going to be a track car. After I show him it's possible to have a fast car without breaking the bank I still intend on using the car to drive around. That's why i'm hoping the ls1 is close to stock so I can have a quick beater 4cylinder mustang. I'm under the impression that you can swap body parts throughout the 79-93. Like you can make a '79 look like an 87-93 without doing any welding.

Ok, about my '84 H/B car. The wieght WAS 3177 (shipping) but here is what happened.......
Aluminum TFS heads, Vic. Jr. intake, aluminum raditor, removed all HVAC stuff, removed innfront fender plastic liners, Converted to manual steering, also went to manual brakes, removed all sound deadner, removed all the seats (I'm using a poly seat on Holcomb mount), removed radio/stero crap, removed all the wiring and I'm just wiring what is needed for the strip.
I think I mayhave the car down to about 3000 with 190# driver.
Hope so.......

If you want to build something fast for under $2000...you might wanna look into what I'm doing...1st gen mazda RX-7 with a 302.

You get get a running RX-7 around here for $800 cdn, theres lots of room under the hood, the rear diff can take a ****load of power, it only weighs 2300lbs.

Check out Granny's Speed Shop they sell conversion kits, but you can make your own brackets for about $10. If your interested also check out Torque Central and My Build

Theres alot of old RX-7's around with blown engines too, could probably get one for dirt.....

I think I've found one. $200. No engine or trans '84 notch. it's ugly as hell & on top of that it's brown... but the body's in good shape. The deck lid (as alwayson fox's) has rusted through... nothing that can't be fixed. Hopefully it's not gone before I can get the funds [>:]
