I have an 89 gt convertible...yes its slower right now cuz it weighs more...but it looks ALOT better than the LX....I think the LX are ugly...reminds me of a Dodge aries or a Plymouth reliant K..........maybe thats just me....I'm selling my convertible you should buy it

Hey! If you want a lighter car, but still has the designation, GT, then get an 1986 GT. Fuel injected, and has the most compression in stock form. 9.2:1 vs. 9.0:1. First year for 8.8, quad shocks. Mine still hauls *** at 140K due to being women driven back in the day, but I can't wait until I put my gears in a week from now. Only two major draw back is that the pistons areflat top (?) so you can't put rockers or cams in until you tear it down. The second draw back is that the fuel system is speed density which doesn't adapt well to heavy modifications. A mass air flow kit will fix that though. Good luck!

I would say your best bet is to get a lx coupe. The 5.0 cobras didnt have that much more hp than the lx and they are alot harder to find.

Make sure the car isn't twisted at all. If they have been driven hard the unibody cars tend to get a little twisted in the middle. Luckilly mine had subframe connectors put on it before it was driven too hard. Also if you are worried about gas mileage, make sure you don't get to early of a 5.0 Fuel injection saves a ton of gas. Personally I'm a carb type of guy, but my stang isn't my main form of transportation.

If you are in an area where snow is an issue you may want to think about buying a stang and a "beater". Ive heard people say its not bad driving w/ them in the snow but if it was me, i wouldnt want snow even touching my ride! lol.. I have had tons (about 9) of cars in the past even at age 22.. My experiance is that the 50's are the funniest and most "chic magnetest" (yes thats a word cause i said) car. I wouldnt trade mine for any other make.

I would say go for an 87-93 fox body. They have a s*** load of bolt ons. If you do put things on to add power then the harder it's going to be to drive in the snow. The upgrade parts, depends on how much $ you have. Don't go with a S/C or turbo for the first mod. You can get a decent amount of ponies with a few bolt ons if you choose them right.

not to mention there are tons and tons of quality used replacement parts and aftermarket accessories. heads, cam, intake TB and exhaust and bigger MAF will get you close too 175 ponies alone. not bad for easy mods and bolt ons.

5.0 Mustangs are not the best for winter time (I know ) anyway I get about 19mpg (prem. gas only) w/ a 3.55 rear gear, auto tranny.

5.0 are great. i bought one when i was 14 and i just put a couple of things into it and now i am running with the big cars. all i did was i put a .512 lift cam. re worked a set of heads that put me to 10:1 compression. a eld.performer RPM intake. a eld. 650 carb. a Mallory all digital ignition and a 8.8 posi differential with 410 gears in it. and it also has a T-5, and a 150 shot of NOS. i have only spent about 2500 dollars on it and it is one hell of a ride.
