Do you have a buddy from whom you can borrow a MAF meter? It's possible your electronics are bad...

is it only when starting it, or does it bounce around all the time? is it every time you start it or like the 1st start of the morning? if you unplugged the maf and it did ok, that could be the culprit, but also, when the computer sees no maf reading, it goes into a default, which could be kind of bypassing the actual prob that could be somewhere else, its very tricky. when the maf is disconnected, the comp relies on i think the tp sensor to keep it going
