Fuel pump question.

Fuel pump question.
I call up summit and ask them for general technical information on the 24lb injectors that are for sale. They were nice enough to convince me not to get them since I won't be running the engine in such a way that I will need the extra flow. But the guy was also nice enough to suggest I get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to plug into my stock pump with usage of the stock 19lb injectors. The question is why the hell would I need to install a fuel pressure regulator if the fuel pump is set at one PSI setting via 12 volts, I can't go above that setting so why do I need the regulator? What I think is there is a very restrictive orifice on the stock fuel system that doesn't allow higher PSI flow and thats where the fuel regulator comes in. Am I right or just 'EEEEEEEHHHHHHH' WRONG?

RE: Fuel pump question.
the adjustable fuel pressure regulator goes on the fuel rail. it replaces the stock one that just has that vacuum line coming out the top. youd want a fuel/air ratio so that you know when your running the car to lean or rich

RE: Fuel pump question.
Ok. But the guy at summit suggested I get a regulator so I can take full advantage of the 19lb stock injectors. He proposed I use the adjustable regulator to boost fuel pressure instead of getting bigger injectors. Can you explain how this is done? I am very confused now...

RE: Fuel pump question.
the stock pump puts out a certain amount of fuel. the regulator doesnt let all the fuel the pump is pushing into the engine. the extra fuel is then sent back to the tank and is then pumped again. by putting on an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, you can use more of the gas that the stock pump is pumping instead of having most of it go back to the tank un-used. basicaly the stock pump is flowing more fuel then the stock regulator will let into the engine. by getting an adjustable regulator, your incharge of how much fuel gets to the engine

RE: Fuel pump question.
Ok I understand now. So the whole deal is just unplug the stock regulator and plug the new one in, then adjust the pressure I want, drive around and see how it feels.?I am also getting an air/fuel gauge so I wont be at risk of a wrong mixture. How does that sound?
