Default Sportsman block

Alright, im in the process of doing a MP T70 .68 Turbo kit, im building it myself. But im wanting to get a little bit better block here. I was going to make this a nitrous motor, but decided against it, its a 69 302 block, but now im thinking its not going to be strong enough. So im wanting to go with a different block....

So heres my question....

About how much stronger are the 302 'sportsman' blocks? Ive heard they're marginally stronger, like they'll stand up to 125more hp than a stock block, so im wondering here. Im going to be running like 500 even on this kit im building. Its totally home made, pieced together.

Anybody know about the sportsman blocks? Have one? etc?

Iv been hearing that are are not much more then a little stronger then a stock block. Also ford recently lowered there horsepower rating on the sportsman block.

well, i guess ill just keep a spare short block on the back burner incase i crack this one. Ive got some spare TRW forged slugs laying around and my buddy will sell me his 95 long block for $75, so ill just throw the TRW's into the 95 5.0 and freshen it up with a good set of bearings i guess.

From what ive seen the 5.0 blocks break right at about 550hp with a decent amount of boost and they're really isnt any point in replacing the stock rods or pistons in a stock 5.0 motor, because the blocks break before they do.

Im only going to be running 10-11psi, thats in the 440ish hp range, so im good there.

Anybody else got a comment on the strength of a sportsman block?
