what is the all around better motor i heard the 347 puts to much presure on the cylinder walls and breaks blocks any truth to this ???????????????
and the 331 raps out alot faster in the rpms

347ci is aboot as far as you can go with a 289/302 block. I want to build a 331, but not on the stock block. You should also look into 306ci.

347 burn oil .... i forget why i think it has sumthin to do with how the rod is pushed up into the piston or sumthin and the rings leak...idk but my freind has a 347 ac cobra and it burns oil .... he says they all do

In lamense terms the rod pin is too close to the oil ring and it causes premature wear so yes thats correct but not always right away. Chris

This was true with the older kits, newer ones have solved this problem.

a 331 has a better rod ratio

a current Ford crate engine using the X303 heads make simular numbers, the 302 is advertized at 345 HP while the 351 only produces 40 more HP. The real difference is the extra torque of the longer rods, 377 ft pounds for the 351 versis 305 ft pounds for the 302....so, using what we know about different ratios, horsepower per inch, the 331 should produce more hp and less torque per inch than a 347....
