What would YOU do? Heads OR stroker?

RE: What would YOU do? Heads OR stroker?
a or b huh...
if it was for a truck then i would go with the stroker and ported stock heads, this would probably make really good low end torqe, perfect for a bronco or f-150
but for a mustang, i would go for the aftermarket aluminum heads, afr 165, this would help top end power alot, perfect for a sporty muscle car, like the mustang.

How do you figure that? My good friend had a 5.0 that was going well into the 11's N/A on a bone stock 100k plus mile short block with a set of TW's, the short block was so bad that it burned oil because the bores were out of round. Heads are, and always have been the key to making power. The answer is simple.

C.
A and B would be a waste of time and money, with dismal results.

I think you get the idea. although your friends engine is an extreme case.
Others would prefer an engine that will run to Chicago in 5hrs and 11 sec, using no oil.

Well FullAuto, you have told us that youve found cars running faster, and slower, but you have not given us a time yet.
fill us in on the dudes slow times, i know im curious
oh and heads are always better then a build motor with E7 boat anchors

The guy has a carbed 331 with a TFS Stage 3 cam that weighs 2925lbs with him in it. Those are his words, not mine. WITH a 150 shot, it's run a best of 11.45 on slicks. In comparision, we have a group of stock shortblock EFI cars that are all heavier and with smaller cams outrunning him. Here are several examples of some of those stock shortblock EFI cars WITH a 150hp shot on nitrous:
1bad306 - 10.45 (it WAS a stock shortblock, the 306 broke long ago).
creampuff - his blue coupe - 10.84 (hypereutectic) - this car has actually seen about 4 different stock shortblocks into the 10s
creampuff - his white coupe - 10.9x - on the 3rd pass ever
FoMoCo - 11.24 (hypereutectic)
Here are some examples of some carbed stock shortblocks cars with a 150 shot:
JRizrockk - 10.76
1slowgt - I know it's been 10s on the bottle and it's been 11.80 N/A.
Honorable mention - lxhatch302 - 11.49 (slower by .04) with his full weight EFI AOD car on the 150 shot.
NONE of the above cars were as light and NONE of them has as large of a cam. If anyone wants to bring up trap speed, 60' or suspension, ALL but lxhatch302 had more mph (at more weight) and everyone except 1bad306 had comparable 60' times. 1bad306 gets out of the hole though HARD!
So I'm sorry guys, but if you have a carbed stroker motor that weighs 2925lbs with you in it and you can only manage an 11.45 on slicks with a 150hp shot, you're slow too.

Well this is all on my local board. So I've been comparing him just to the locals. I wanted a fair comparision with guys running on the same track at the same altitude, etc. Cars just run quicker in certain areas of the country so I did not search throughout the nation for combos. I ony compared him to guys that live in the same area and are on that specific board (and it's a small board with only about 400 active members).

Driving skill and that can make or break a car, maybe he might run a 11.45 driving it, but put that same exact car in someone elses hands and it might go bust loose a 10.87 or something, maybe even lower. Like i said in another post. I drove my car to a 7.53 @ 93mph in the 1/8. My friend..whom everyone considered a great driver thought he could do better so i let him try it in my car...he could only muster a best of 8.2, see what i mean?
