Is this an upgrade?
Is this flywheel an upgrade from the factory in any way? I'm thinking about putting a new flywheel on this new engine. I know there are better ones for like $250, but I'm not trying to spend that... if this is no better than the factory one, I will just re-surface the one I have

RE: Is this an upgrade?
That is the stock cast iron flywheel. A good upgrade would be a billet SS flywheel, SFI approved.
While aluminum sounds like a great idea, it is mostly for road racing, high RPM applications. The reduced weight of the aluminum flywheel will dramatically affect throttle response but it will cost you low end torque.
The flywheel effect is a big part of the 5.0 acceleration and engine momentum. Aluminum flywheels are best left to closed circuit racing.
