When relocating a battery the longer teh run te thicker the wire is need becuase engery is transfer gives off heat . so the harder the enger has to work to go threw that small guage wire the more heat is made which will caus the wire to melt and cause fire. I have always forund the shortest path teh ground to be the best and most effective. I know in the fuel injected world one loose ground could make havoc in car. when i ran my red top in the trunk i used 1/0 (basicly weldin cable) on the positive side and I have a peice of 1/4 inch flat plate with a stud welded into the car and i ran a 2foot ground off the battery the the stud on the plate It works pretty well for me but my only accessories are my fan and my eletric water pump
