RE: what oil do you use?
thicker oil doesnt leak all the way down and stays up in the valvetrain so u dont get valvetrain noise, much better cushion between bearings, i just go off of the two chevy mechanics that my dad knows and my best friends dad

LOL, you can use synthetic oil. you just cant go back to regular oil. If you do, be prepaired for new rings.
i run 5w30 royal purple on my 4 valver, but for the 5.0 id choose 10w40, maybe 10w30 for the winter time.

I've heard that its not good to go from reg. oil to syn. oil, esp. if the car has been ran its life on reg. then switch to syn.

^^^that's pretty harsh...especially since there's a bit of truth there you will not have any real problems...but high mileage motors that had been run on reg oil usually start leaking some oil when switched to synthetic because the synthetic oil finds it way through deposits and worn seals much more easily than reg oil
btw i use royal purple/k&n filter in my stang and valvoline/cheaper filter in my truck
