what actually determines your redline?

RE: what actually determines your redline?
the less the rotating mass, the faster you spin.
My engine gets very nasty at 5,600 rpm and likes it there, the 4:10's do that !
How???? well if YOU CANT REDUCE THE WEIGHT OF THE ENGINE, REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF MASS IT HAS TO PULL
just as effective, and with the 4:10's , is greatly reduces the mass it has to pull.
so im actually LOSING by having a factory cam, instead of one thats designed for my powerband

RE: what actually determines your redline?
you're joking right? you just said that having 4.10's reduces the amount of mass it has to pull? mass is a relationship of weight & size? nothign to do with gearing.. your gearing just gets you into your powerband faster.

that was total B.S.!.....you 4.10's do what?

IF YOU CANT REDUCE THE INTERNALS WEIGHT...MAKE THE F*CKIN' MOTOR BIGGER!!!!!!!!!!!
..............AND PUT A TURBO ON IT!!!!!
so im actually WINNING by having a HUGE cam, instead of one thats designed for a pos stock motor!!!!!

Your rpm is the number of revolutions that your engine completes in a minute. Unless you have a higly modified engine that can handle the added stress it is not safe to rev higher.

RE: what actually determines your redline?
I can't believe nobody has even mentioned the intake.. Intake plays a huge role in determining your power-band. Long runners (such as what came on the 5.0 and what most aftermarket intakes have) create torque, creating higher air-speeds at lower rpms, but starving it for air at higher rpms, so it redlines early. Short runner intakes, such as the box intake, create horsepower and drop torque. Don't give the air a long enough runner to get up to speed at lower rpms but the short runners allow it to flow a lot of air at higher rpms, so meaning your power-band will raise.

RE: what actually determines your redline?
was askin what determines ya redline range...rpm range, not what goes along with it..fuel has virtually nuthin to do with it..springs apply pressure....ya cam is where ya rpm range comes from, and gears make how fast ya get there orhow slow ya get to the redlines..
