Default rust attack

i jsut lowered my gas tank to put a new filler neck gasket on and noticed lots of rust everywere on my car... i was wondering what i should do about it.... i figured i would sand it off and use some type of rust inhibiting paint or something to stop it from continueing... i hope i can get some pics up of the rust.. its pretty bad in places. Anywayhow involved is this process usually and what kind of paint or rust inhibitor works well but is also cost effective?

por-15 is some awesome stuff. slather it on and dont worry about it ever again. if its exterior do some rubberized undercoating to slow it down too.

Don't sand off the rust, that's a common mistake. Just slather it with paint. Tremclad is good stuff... really good stuff.. and cheap

oh ok i will have to look for this then. when i do this do i have to take down the fuel lines or can i just go around them? and about how much do you need to do the job? Is home depot a good place to look for this then?

Yeah 86 5.0L i read about your loss which scared the crap out of me... my car had been developed a leak there a little while ago... i was being stupid and driving it with only a gallon or so in it so it would not leak through. but when i read about your loss i knew that i couldn't do that anymore. thanks for sharing your story, it probably would have happened to me too.

Why not sand it off? I had lots of surface rust inside my interior (floor pans, hatch area, etc.) I took up all the rubber crap on the floor and than wire wheeled the entire thing. Than primered it and used this stuff called "Tex Coat" its basically like something you would line the bed of your truck with. It worked pretty well though.

I wouldnt think so, the stuff I used it like a rubberized coating in a can. I am also going to do my whole under carriage with it eventually when I get the time. The stuff is expensive though, like 9 bucks a can if I remember right.

Hnmmm... coverage Im not sure about. It did this over a year ago. I remember though that I used about 8-10 cans but I did about three coats on my whole interior. From hatch area to front floor pans. Also, I got mine from a local paint store called Kemperele. Let me do a quick search and see if I can find something for ya...
