Hi, I just picked up an 87' gt good cond. 110K miles and I can't figure this out. So I just installed a Black Magic fan and replaced my thermostat from 180 to 160 degrees and I'm overheating quick, always runs at around 290 about 270 in the morning, could this be my water pump takin a **** on me or what? What do I need to do to bring it back down? Please help, thanks for reading.

if youre at 270-290 you're are really hurting your motor bad time. dont even try and drive it if its running like that. check your water pump would be one of the first things you should do. you could also try some water wetter or the royal purple stuff. its an additive to your coolant.

i put water wetter in my coolant already and it still runs hot.

I put the thermostat in correctly, I'm sure of that. It was runnin 290 when i first drove it, when i got home it was steamin' bad from the overflow, I then made all the adjustments and its now runnin 270 but occaissionally reaches 290?

I'm replacing the water pump tonight I hope thats the problem
