Default Alright Fellas help me out here....

Alright here's the deal. I'm buyin a 90 5.0 and I plan on fixin it up and all that jazz. Now because my friend is pretty wealthy his dad is buying him an automatic 06 Eclipse cranking 263 horsepower. 5.0's create about 225. This is what I want to know. Can I win without upgrades yet? He gets under my skin sometimes because he has it so easy with his dad having a 6 figure job. Enough about that can I win or do I wait?

You're pushing a lot less RWHP and you're heavy. You may want to wait a bit and do some things to boost the HP first. Or just toss a 125-shot on nitrous on there for $500 and call it a day

I'm sure that the car that you're getting has a helluva lot more torque than the 'clipse. Get some gears and slicks and you'll be alright. I'd just be worried about that car from a roll. Are you automatic or manual? How about him?

It weighs 3500 lbs. You weigh about 600lbs less. It says they run a 14.4, but thats gonna be with a perfect driver, and with a manual and not an auto. He'll probly run around high 14's, which is what you run stock(if your a very good driver). If you are an excellent driver then you might be able to take him. Just to be safe, buy some 4.10 gears and have them installed(it'll cost 500 bucks together), then you will kick his a$$. Good Luck

Definentally do gears and don't spin too hard, you will for SURE take him out of the hole, drive good and let him play catch up.

I was gonna say he's 3500 pounds too... For some reason i thought he said it was a 1995 and not a 1990. The curb weight of an eclipse is about 3300.

But anyway...what am I missing here? the 2006 / 2006 Eclipse's and Spyders were rated at 162 HP. What does he have under the hood to give him 100+ more HP over a stock Eclipse?

If he's pushing an extra 100 HP, I just don't see how an absolute bone stock mustang could hang.

The 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse is offered with two new engines, both delivering more power and more driving enjoyment. The top-of-the-line Eclipse GT is powered by a high-output 3.8-liter V6 engine with the Mitsubishi Innovative Variable timing and lift Electronic Control (MIVEC) system that delivers 263 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, mated to either a 6-speed manual or 5-speed Sportronic automatic transmission.
