he doesnt need a vb or a bigger stall if hes going to convert it. a good idea would be to convert it to maf rather than sd, it will make the car much more susceptible to any future mods. just my .02

thanx i was kinda hesitant about the port i just wanted power fast. i was thinking about the idling problem cause i know if u have too much air and not enough fuel or spark it wont run right. i was also thinking about the maf conversion. but i wasnt to sure about it. about the long tube i was asking cause a friend of mine had a pair laying around and was willing to sell them cheap. right now i have stock headers. what about maybe just porting the throttle body? think that would be good? i also heard 4:10 gears are a killer on gas mileage and on the motor so that is why i was thinking about the 3:73s. but thanx for all the feedback keep it coming i want to hear more.

410s dont really kill gas mileage as much as they make 1st gear useless w/ a 5 speed. 373s or 355s would be good for a street car w/ a manual. the maf conversion, the gears, and the long tubes would be great first mods. the maf conversion will open you up to more mods, the gears will wake up the acceleration, and the long tubes are cheap and available. after that i would say start saving for heads cam and intake, depending of course on your funds and how long you're willing to wait. o ya and that tranny swap haha.

MAF conversion

It won't give you any power, but it will allow you to do many other modifications down the road.

ok i decided to do this with some good advice from a friend. i decided to go and buy a used stock lower intake and have it ported that way i can have my stock one just incase something goes wrong. i found one for 10 bucks. i think this will be good even if it doesnt work right now. btw my friend ported the lower intake for a guy with an 85 5.0 SD and it worked great and dropped his QM time from 15.1 to about 14.5 14.4 im hoping for the same results.

First off welcome, secondly the auto is whats killing you not the motor, get some 3.73 gears and a lentech valve body and you'll be cooking, also get a full exhaust system and these cars respond very well the h/c/i combo swaps, furthermore dont bother with the 5 lug swap, its just for looks and rim selction, the rear drums are fine and if you have good pads/rotors and shoes/drums you'll stop just fine. Also do the freebie mods, remove the air silencer, advance the timing, get a cold air intake... etc. check out the tech articles in the top of the 5.0 section... good luck
uhhhhh, is it "try to kill the newbie" week? stock fox brakes ARE NOT ADEQUATE, maybe for the four-banger version, maybe, but for a v-8 nope, not by a longshot
dude, i gotta disagree with ya, i have stainless steel slotted rotors with a high quality pad, good drums and shoes and i stop with plenty of time, of course if anyone drive like an idiot its gonna be another story...
