Default Trick flow or work the stock heads??

I have been researching some heads/cam options and most people lean twords the trick flow set up. The cheapest I have found it is about $2300. What are the pros and cons of this package?

I can spend $1400 at a speed shop for a port and polish on the stock heads with a custon grind cam to match. I was told that the ported and polished heads will flow slightly better than the TF heads and the cam will match better. There has to be a reason that people spend the extra $900 for the TF kit.....anybody know what it is? I know the heads are aluminum but is 80 lbs less weight really worth $900?

Thanks for your help....Ryan

edit: From the speed shop the $1400 covers everything but gaskets.

If this shop is REALLY good at porting stock E7's, then they may get close to the flow numbers of as cast TrickFlow's.

However, I don't see any reason to dump money into the stock heads.

You can still have the trickflows ported later too....

I think the 2300 you listed is for a full h/c/i kit?

My bad....you guys were right. The $2300 package comes with an intake. The deal sounds better now. Thanks for your input.

I'm looking to build my car on a budget....what engine packages give the best bang for the buck? I'm only looking to get the car into the mid 13s so I wont need anything to drastic.

That trickflow topend kit is the best bang for the buck. And i'm sure you can get it for cheaper without the intake if you dont want it.

Trickflow is a complete kit, Heads/Cam/Intake, vs. a michined pair of heads and cam, hands down go with the proven gains from Trickflow! But that machinist is one hell of a salesmen, better flow...lol

this may help you with heads:http://www.allfordmustangs.com/Detailed/630.shtml

Ya.....the guy that I was talking to about working the heads is very good. He has flow charts of some heads that hes done and they do infact flow a little bit better than the trick flow heads. I had him work the heads on my old WS6 and I was very please with the results. He got my stock heads to flow better than a set of AFR heads.

After looking at everything you get witht he trick flow system I still think you guys are right. I think the trick flow set-up is the way to go. Just because this guy got 1 set of heads to flow that well doesnt mean hes going to get mine to do the same. I think I'm going to go with the set up that has proven to work well time and time again.

Haha...kind of funny that I'm ordering all this crap and I dont even own a mustang yet. I sure hope I can find a good deal on one when I return home from Kuwait. If I cant I will have to return all this stuff.

The TF kit also uses aluminum heads instead of iron like the stock heads. That will give you a substantial weight savings over the stock pieces.
