Default adding a cold air intake help???

so i'm also going to add a cold air intake to my car(87 5.0). i'm pretty sure its a speed density system, and most of the CAI that i've seen were MAC or MAFs or whatever. i would like some help on deciding which intake to get on a moderate budget. just something to bump up the horses. i dont want anything cheap, but nothing too elaborate. and also, what i need to do in order to get around the speed density thing without having to do the conversion.

thanks,
jeff

Air you talking Cold Air Intake or Intake Manifold? For Cold Air go with BBK, for Manifold you'll have to search around and find what best suits your needs, but for a stock 5.0 the Cobra would be an upgrade.

I think you mean a cold air intkake... Basically, the ones made for mass air cars are like two pieces of pipe... Coming off your intake manifold, you have one pipe whic curves and comes forward toward the front of the car. Then, another piece of pipe (your mass air meter) fits into that, then the last piece of pipe goes from the mass air to the air filter. If you do nto have mass air, you will be missing that middle pipe which will cut about 4-6 inches from the length, and make it not fit into the fenderwell. I know kits are made for speed density cars though, so I would look for those.

OR instead of wasting your money you can just remove the air silencer and throw in a nice k&n... you dont get the good looks of the BBK though...

You can get a fenderwell kit for SD. I had one on my 88. If you do go with a BBK defiently go with a fenderwell setup.

and also, I think the amrch its just bolt up to your factory setupp and doesn't matter mass air or speed density.. might want a second opinion on this one though.
