ahh ok, we just had this same post a few weeks back, whay u do is lift the whole back end off the ground, then mark a spot on the driveshaft with a peice of chalk. turn the wheel but MAKE SURE THAT BOTH OF THEM ARE TURNING AT THE SAME SPEED because if they arent then u wont get an accurate reading cause of the differential, then as u rotate the tire, watch to see how many rotations u have to make to make the driveshaft turn one complete revolution, it might be the other way around( see how many turns of the driveshaft it takes to make one complete revolution of the tires, anyway make sure that both wheels are turning like i said. if u have to make a little over 4 revolutions then u have 4.10 gears, 3 3/4 revolutions then u have 3.73 gears and soo on, hope this helps

For your car, depends on if you have an Automatic or 5spd.
Let's say 5spd

Most people are going to reccommend 3.55's or 3.73's

oh no problem at all man, glad i could help! with an auto people say go with 4.10s but i dont think thats a good idea. they are to low of a gear, i think 3.73 would be nice, i have the same tranny and i am even getting 3.55s. these will do GREAT on the highway but also give a significant increase in accleration!!! see in an auto tranny you can go slightly higher gears due to the higher overdrive gear. ussualy they say to go with 4.10s in auto and 3.73s in a 5-speed, personally i think these are a little high[8D]

hey 91mustang, when I saw Christiansburg, I thought you might be from VA but I see you're from Ohio instead. Christiansburg, VA is only 8 miles down the road from Virginia Tech where I went to school many moons ago.
For the Fox model Stangs I would recommend 3.73 gears for you AOD tranny. They will be a world of improvement over the stock 2.73 gears if you still have them and they won't hurt the gas mileage near as much as a set of 4.10's would. When I put a set in my'88 it only increase my rpm in overdrive about 300 rpm at 70 mph and the effect on gas mileage was negligible!
BTW, the other way to tell what ratio you have is to pull the rear cover draining the fluid and then count the teeth on both gears and divide the ring count by the pinion count to get the ratio.
