If it's in good shape now, I wouldn't worry about it. It's got plenty of life left in it.

You know...My buddy races NMRA Factory Stock. When he first got into it, his spare trans was in his daily driver. It got to the point where he could have it out in 15 minutes and throw it in the trailer before they went to a race. (Broke *** racing FTW!!)

A TKO is overkill at this point. The only reason that T5 broke is because someone didn't put it together right. It's not a race car. Sounds like he's concerned about the money situation at the moment anyway.

Besides, I've ragged on T5's harder than a lot of you youngins can imagine and never broke one. Unless that car is spending a ton of time at the strip, a TKO is just pissing money away.
**** my brother broke 6 t5's in 6 months. half the time he was just cruising around town takin it easy and boom. one of them was a 4 cyl tranny to so thats an easy one.

How did that happen? Clearly, even if it was a ****ty trans from the factory, 6 of them in 6 months? There had to be something else wrong there.

I'm kinda happy to hear that, sidewayz.

So with my AFR 165 heads, Steeda #19 cam and 1.7rr, and a KB at around 8psi, how long do you expect my T5 w/ 61k miles to last? And when it breaks, should i upgrade to a TKO? My 3rd gear already grinds more than half the time shifting into 3rd under heavy accel.
After reading that again...Which at this point makes sense that I missed where you said it grinds. You probably have a bad syncro. I might throw a rebuild kit at it if you're going to be putting down some serious power.

I'm not a trans specialist either, but I have to imagine it's the way some of these guys are driving them. Power shifting generally doesn't hurt them...But when you miss the shift, and it only goes halfway in...Thats how they break.
